Tegretol medication is an antiepileptic drug. It has an anti-manic, neurochemical (normalizing mood) effect. The active substance activates the inhibitory GABAergic system in the brain. It also blocks potential-dependent Na-channels of the membranes of nerve cells, which leads to stabilization of their function, reduces the activity of neurotransmitter acids (aspartate, glutamate), interacts with brain adenosine receptors. Tegretol pill increases seizure threshold, corrects epileptic personality changes.
The drug blocks sodium channels, thus stopping the emergence of potentials associated with sodium ions in neurons after depolarization. Tegretol eliminates anxiety and signs of depression, reduces irritability, stops aggression during epilepsy (due to psychotropic effects). With idiopathic neuralgia, neuralgia of the secondary nature of the trigeminal nerve while taking the drug, prevention of paroxysmal pain attacks is observed.
Thus, this medicine is used to treat:
•epilepsy;
•complex and simple partial seizures (with/without loss of consciousness, with/without signs •of secondary generalization);
•mixed forms of convulsive seizures;
•degenerative tonic-clonic seizures;
•acute mania;
•alcohol dependence syndrome;
•bipolar affective disorders (as maintenance therapy) to reduce the severity of clinical •manifestations during exacerbations, as well as to prevent exacerbations;
•idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia, trigeminal neuralgia in multiple sclerosis;
•idiopathic neuralgia of the glossopharyngeal nerve.
Tegretol is not used if the patient has:
•component intolerance;
•allergic reactions to tricyclic antidepressants in the past;
•AV blockade;
•oppression of bone marrow function;
•hepatic porphyria (acute intermittent, mixed, late porphyria of the skin), including in the past.
Thus, the drug has a strong effect on the nervous system and causes a significant change in its functioning. The erroneous prescription of this medicine is unacceptable.
