Description

Meridia is a drug used for the maintenance treatment of patients with alimentary obesity.

Meridia is produced in the form of capsules: hard gelatin, with a blue lid and a yellow (10 mg) or white (15 mg) color. It is labeled (depending on the dose) "10" or "15"; the contents of the capsules are easily free-flowing powder of almost white or white color. The composition of 1 capsule includes sibutramine hydrochloride monohydrate - 10 mg, sodium lauryl sulfate, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, gelatin, titanium dioxide, and gray ink.

You should not take this medicine if you have:

Obesity with organic causes;

Glaucoma;

Serious eating disorders;

Neurological pathology (Tourette syndrome);

Mental illness;

Meridia should be taken orally without chewing and drinking a sufficient amount of liquid (a glass of water), preferably in the morning. Capsules can be combined with food or taken on an empty stomach. At the beginning of therapy often prescribed 10 mg of Meridia daily. In the absence of effectiveness, (a reduction in weight is less than 2 kg per month), or in the case of good tolerability of the drug, it is possible to increase the daily dose to 15 mg.

For patients who are not responsive to receiving 15 mg of Meridia (the criterion is a weight reduction of less than 4 kg per month), further therapy is not appropriate. In the case of skipping the drug, you need to take a double dose. For patients who do not respond well enough to therapy (weight loss of less than 5% of the initial level within 3 months of therapy), the course should not last longer than 3 months.
