Common use
Trimox is a semisynthetic penicillin antibiotic which active substance is amoxicillin. The medication inhibits the formation of cell walls in different bacteria such as N. gonorrhoea, H. influenzae, E. coli, Streptococci, Pneumococci, some strains of Staphylococci. It is used to treat bacterial infections which cause diseases of the middle ear, skin, upper and lower respiratory tract, and the genital and urinary tract.
Dosage and direction
To treat different sorts of infections Trimox should be administered 250 mg every eight hours, 500 mg every eight hours, 500 mg every twelve hours or 875 mg every twelve hours. Take with a full glass of water with or without a meal. For children, the dosage should be reduced.
Precautions
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not start or stop Trimox without your doctor's permission. Complete the full course of treatment even if you feel that your symptoms became better as untimely interruption of the treatment may promote the development of resistant bacterial strains. In the diabetics, Trimox may cause false-positive urine glucose test results. Inform your doctor if you had a history of asthma, colitis, diabetes, or kidney or liver diseases.
Contraindications
If you are allergic to any sort of penicillin antibiotic do not take Trimox.
Possible side effect
The most common side effects of Trimox are heartburn, diarrhoea, vomiting, dizziness, nausea, insomnia, confusion, abdominal pain, easy bruising or bleeding, rash, itching, and allergic reactions. If adverse effects become bothersome or serious check with your doctor.
Drug interaction
Inform your doctor about all medications and herbal products you are taking and especially about Chloramphenicol, Erythromycin, Estrogen, oral contraceptives, other antibiotics, including tetracycline. Probenecid decreases the renal tubular secretion of Trimox.
Missed dose
Never take a double dose of this medication. If it is almost time of the next dose just skip the missed portion and continue to take the medicine according to the schedule.
Overdose
If you feel that too much of Trimox was taken and experience such symptoms as diarrhoea, upset stomach, nausea, stomach cramps, vomiting seek immediate medical attention.
Storage
Trimox should be stored at room temperature between 20-25 C (68-77 F).
